Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK) has held its
22nd inaugural lecture series Wednesday at the school ground.
The lecture was presented by a professor of French translation,
Professor Dinatu Iwala, on the topic, ‘Language Contact, Translation and the
Challenges of Internet Technology’.
Iwala stressed that language translation is difficult
when the basis is not observed, She disclosed that language contact is the social
and linguistic phenomenon by which speakers of different languages interact
with one another.
She said language contact had been the focus of
interest since philologist became aware that no language would be free of
foreign elements as language is a source of information, communication and it also
influences people at different locations.

She appealed to parents to embrace girl-child

Prof. Suleiman Bala Muhammed stated that inaugural lecture is the avenue where
professors showcase their ability to defend their professorial title. The VC who was represented by Deputy Vice
Chancellor, Academic (DVC) Professor O. Akinwumi, said that Iwala, during her engagement, was the Dean, Faculty
of Arts.

In the same vein, the Chief of Migili, HRH Dr Ayuba Agwadu Audu,
applauded Professor Iwala for making their chiefdom proud. The traditional
ruler said Iwala’s achievement in academic pursuit was an encouragement for
accepting girl-child education by parents. Dr Ayuba in his goodwill message said the Professor
Iwala holds a traditional title in Migili chiefdom as Zhe Garula.
