FG urged to engage chartered accountants to fight corruption

Federal Government has been advised to partner with the Institute of Chattered Accountants of Nigeria, (ICAN) in its war against corruption to make the campaign more effective nationwide.
Newly elected ICAN chairman, Gwagwalada District, Mr Sosanwo Akinwumi-Omotola, who gave the advice after his investiture as the 4th district chairman of the institute in Abuja, said professionally sound ICAN members are known to exhibit high moral standards and respect the ethics of the profession.
Akinwumi-Omotola argued that engaging ICAN members in the war against corruption will enhance the campaign and give it more credibility as well as universal acceptance.
He also advised the government on the way out of the current economic challenges by urging President Bola Tinubu to aggressively explore increased participation of Nigerians in agriculture as well as direct intervention in Medium and Small Scale Enterprise (MSME) to rebuild the nation’s economy.
Akinwumi-Omotola also expressed the hope that ICAN will engage in the training of young people to become accounting technicians in the six area councils of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) for free to improve the nation’s economy.
In his message, the 60th President of ICAN, Davidson Alaribe, who was represented by the First Deputy Vice President, Queensly Sofuratu, harped on mentoring young people into becoming future accountants.
Accountant Akinwumi-Omotola took over from Musa Dala-Mama and he promised to take ICAN to the next level during his leadership.
