Gov Aliyu, Sultan and fake news peddlers
By Yakubu Mohammed
We, the concerned people of Sokoto State advise Vice President Kassim Shettima to to use his exalted office to speak with the governor of Sokoto State to find out from him on a serious allegation that he wanted to depose the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Sa’ad Abubakar II, before jumping to conclusion. It is unstatesmanlike of a vice president whom all communication channels are at his disposal to believe in fake media reports.
Also , former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s blame game against our governor is understandable. He was the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2023, which he lost to the candidate of the All Progressives Congress candidate, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Therefore, we may say his allegation is a clear opposition voice because Sokoto State governor, Dr Aliyu won Sokoto governorship on the APC platform.
Also we advised the main peddler of the fake report, Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) to steer clear of Sokoto politics because their accusations against Dr Ahmed Aliyu is untrue, baseless and unsustntiated.
The allegation the group cooked about a plan by Sokoto State Government to depose the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar II was a figment of their imagination, and therefore, nothing could be father from the truth. So I advise the good people of Sokoto State to disregard it, because we
the concerned Sokoto people wonder how a faith-based body like MURIC, which should be working round the clock to protect the rights of the Muslims would descend so low to join hands with enemies of the state to cook a false and unsubstantiated story against the people’s governor. We have discovered their surreptitious plan to create an unfriendly atmosphere, fear and anxiety in the minds of the law-abiding and peaceful citizens of the state, and to turn them against their governor.
I have evidence to prove that these enemies of the state are trying to draw away the attention of the good people of Sokoto state and Nigerians from the huge development and transformations as well as the novel initiatives taking place in Sokoto State over the last one year when Dr Aliyu assumed leadership as the executive governor of Sokoto State.
I want reassure MURIC that just like the previous administrations, the current government cherishes and respects the Sultanate Council long before MURIC was established.
The Sultanate Council, with its long standing historical significance is so reverred to not only Sokoto people but the whole Nigerians, even as fake news peddlers are still immersed in their hatchet job,
Dr Aliyu holds the traditional institution in very high regards and esteem and will do all he can to protects it’s integrity.
The opposition party and it’s members should try to look elsewhere because no amount of smear campaign by Governor Aliyu’s traducers will change the views and regards the people hold their governor in their heart because of his good leadership quality and pro-people governance style which are almost unparallel in anals of the state.
In any society, there are invariably opposing views, but we should try to be honest in assessing even our enemies instead of just calling a dog a bad name in order to hang it.
I am surprised that MURIC have not been able to laud Dr Aliyu who have been promoting and uplifting Islamic matters in Sokoto like no other before him, but are quick to heap a huge blame on him over secular issues which should not have been on the of it’s top agenda.
Going by Gov Aliyu antecedents, no one can scientifically or otherwise prove that the present administration engaged in acts or actions that could jeopardize the development of Islam in any way.
No wonder, the Press Secretary to Sokoto State Governor, Abubakar Bawa said to put the records straight, it is important to tell the world that the relationship between the Ahmed Aliyu-led administration and the Sultanate Council under the leadership of Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar II has been very cordial.
He said Gov Aliyu’s administration always consulted with His Eminence, the Sultan on issues affecting the state, and his invaluable contributions and inputs are always respected and included in Sokoto policies.
By the foregoing, may I appeal to the opposition and people of Sokoto state to come and join hands with the government of Dr Ahmed Aliyu to move the state forward to the next level instead engaging in a cold war with him.
