Taraba illegal mining: Kefas constitutes LG taskforce on environmental protection

Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State has constituted a special taskforce on environmental protection, public safety and prohibition of deforestation in the 16 local government areas across the state.
In a press release issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr. Yusuf Sanda, and made available to sensenews, he stressed that the taskforce comprises of the Nigerian Army, Police, DSS, NSCDC, and Taraba Marshall, a local security outfit for the state.
The statement disclosed that the government has observed with dismay the re-grouping of illegal miners to various mining sites where they had been dislodged by the taskforce on environmental protection.
The statement further stressed that the Executive Order 5 on environmental protection against the activities of miners, felling of rosewood issued by Dr. Agbu Kefas is still in force.
“The Gen. Jeremiah Faransa (rtd)-led special taskforce on environmental protection against the activities of miners, felling of rosewood in Taraba State is hereby reactivated to further the enforcement of the executive order 5,” the statement explained.
