By John James, Damaturu

Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, has received the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen. Olufemi Olatubosun Oluyede in Damaturu, urging him to intensify efforts in the fight against the resurgence of insurgency in the state. This is the third time the Chief of Army Staff visited Yobe State. In this particular visit, the Army Chief, while at the Government House, Damaturu, assured the state government and Yobe people that despite recent setbacks in the security situation in some parts of the state, things will normalise.

“I am here today to particularly assure the people of Yobe State that despite the few setbacks in the security situation in recent days, things will be normal, we will bring in more enablers, more troops and I can assure you that we will not go back to the years like 2015, because it will be out of place for me to work so hard here to bring peace and now that I am the Chief of Army Staff to see that such peace is being eroded,” Chief of Army Staff assured.

Responding, Governor Buni appreciated the Army Chief for the visit. “Let me sympathise with you over the unfortunate attack that led to the loss of lives of some gallant troops of the Nigerian Army, we also thank the military for making all efforts to keep us in peace, like you said, this is not about the security agencies alone, we are going to give our support as citizens for lasting peace to be achieved.”

Governor Buni called on the military to ensure effective synergy between all military sections to tackle the resurgence of terrorism in the state.
