FG reaffirms commitment to quality teacher education

The Federal Government has reiterated its commitment to improving the quality of teaching in Nigerian schools, with a renewed focus on technology and teacher development.
This assurance was given by the newly appointed registrar of the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN), Dr. Ronke Soyombo, who officially assumed office on Monday.
Speaking during a media briefing at the TRCN headquarters in Abuja, Dr. Soyombo outlined the council’s plans to elevate teaching standards nationwide.
She emphasized that the TRCN will collaborate with key stakeholders to promote technology-driven, student-centred approaches to learning, in line with the Federal Government’s “Renewed Hope” agenda.
“Our aim is to deliver world-class education by leveraging the capabilities of tech-savvy teachers,” she stated. “TRCN will focus on the strategic use of relevant technologies to enhance learning outcomes, and ensure that teachers receive the necessary training to effectively manage modern classrooms.”
Dr. Soyombo further noted that the Council will prioritize inclusive programmes that benefit all teachers across the country. She disclosed that TRCN will work closely with teacher trade unions and state-level teachers’ service boards to enhance professional development and improve teachers’ welfare.
“These partnerships are crucial to ensuring effective classroom management and service delivery. Our collective goal is to ensure that every Nigerian child has access to quality education through empowered and well-supported teachers,” she added.
Dr. Soyombo’s appointment marks a new chapter in the council’s drive to reform the teaching profession and uphold high standards in the education sector.
