Disregard this manufactured outrage over Jigawa’s Government House vehicles

The recent furore generated by Sahara Reporters regarding alleged vehicle spending at the Jigawa State Government House is yet another example of how misinformation, political mischief, and selective outrage are weaponised to undermine genuine leadership. Their narrative, laden with sensationalism and driven by anonymous whispers, is less an act of journalism and more a carefully choreographed hatchet job orchestrated by political godfathers who remain deeply uncomfortable with Gov Umar Namadi’s rising profile and his refusal to dance to their tune.

The claim that Gov Namadi spent N437 million in three months on “utility vehicles” is deliberately framed to trigger public anger, yet even Sahara Reporters’ own report contradicts itself at every turn. The spending was recorded in a budget performance document, a standard, publicly accessible, legally mandated financial record. If anything, its existence proves one thing: Gov Namadi has nothing to hide. His administration is not only transparent but is bold enough to place its expenditures on official record, unlike the clandestine practices of past governments whose sympathisers now cry wolf.
The mischievous reports attempt to paint a picture of reckless extravagance in Government House. Yet, the same critics know full well that utility vehicles—whether for security operations, protocol duties, emergency response, or inter-agency coordination—are routine and necessary expenditures for any functional government. Government House vehicles are not toys for personal pleasure; they are tools for governance.
Sahara Reporters leans heavily on anonymous sources and shadowy informants whose motives are at best questionable and at worst malicious. They allege inflated contracts and “illegality” but offer no evidence whatsoever. They point fingers at parked vehicles, some of which belong to visitors, and hastily concluded that they are newly acquired luxury fleet for the governor. Such carelessness would be laughable if it were not so destructive.
The APC Publicity Secretary in Jigawa State, Bashir Kundu, rightly dismissed the report as a deliberate act of ignorance. The governor still uses vehicles inherited from his predecessor; a fact Sahara Reporters chose to ignore because it does not align with their pre-packaged storyline. But this is precisely how hatchet jobs work: ignore facts, amplify rumour, and create an illusion of scandal where none exists.
At the heart of this manufactured controversy is a deeper truth: Gov Namadi’s leadership has become an uncomfortable reminder that governance can be done with honesty, discipline, and purpose. His opponents, many of whom thrived under the old political order of entitlement and “food-is-ready” politics, cannot fathom a leader who treats public funds as a sacred trust. They cannot imagine a governor who prioritises development over sharing public wealth to appease political patrons. And so, they resort to cheap blackmail.
Gov Namadi has consistently demonstrated that Jigawa’s resources are for the people, not for a few individuals who feel entitled to government contracts and government money. His administration has been marked by clarity of vision, prudent management, and an unwavering commitment to the long-term development of the state. Roads, schools, healthcare facilities, agricultural support, digital innovation, and human capital initiatives have taken precedence over frivolities. This is the real reason he is being targeted. Progress disrupts the comfort of those who prefer stagnation.
Rather than applaud a leader who has refused to mortgage the state to political merchants, Sahara Reporters chooses to play the role of attack dog, peddling half-truths and innuendo. But Jigawa people are wiser. They have witnessed Namadi’s simplicity, humility, and accountability. They have seen his open-door governance model and his insistence on due process. They know a leader who works for them, and one who works for selfish interests.
The orchestrated outrage about vehicles is therefore nothing more than an act of hypocrisy. Where were these critics when previous administrations purchased fleets that never appeared in any budget document? Where were they when ghost contracts drained public resources without a trace? Why is transparency now being twisted into scandal?
Gov Namadi’s enemies are simply irritated by his rising stature. They are shocked that he remains focused despite their provocations. They are unsettled that his performance has become a benchmark for good, not just in Jigawa but across northern Nigeria. And they are afraid—afraid that his integrity, calm temperament, and strategic leadership will continue to expose their own failures.
This latest smear campaign will not derail Jigawa’s progress. Gov Namadi has earned the trust of his people not through propaganda, but through performance. His legacy will not be written by anonymous sources or politically sponsored narratives, but by the visible transformation taking place across the state.
The truth remains unshakeable: Namadi is a leader committed to development, accountability, and service. No amount of concocted out lies can diminish that.
