NELFUND disburses N1.33bn to 6,308 eligible UNILAG students

The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has confirmed the disbursement of N1.33 billion to the University of Lagos (UNILAG) for the 2025/2026 academic session, as part of its ongoing student loan programme.
In a statement issued on Thursday, NELFUND disclosed that a total of ₦1,326,550,000 was successfully transferred to UNILAG on January 19, 2026, in accordance with its approved disbursement schedule.
The funds are meant to cover tuition-related obligations for 6,308 eligible students of the institution who met all requirements under the scheme.
The Fund explained that beneficiary lists are generated using verified institutional data submitted during the application and validation process, adding that once disbursement is made, students should be able to complete registration and access academic activities without delay.
NELFUND also reaffirmed its collaboration with tertiary institutions to ensure proper reconciliation of beneficiary lists, timely application of funds to students’ accounts, and clear communication to prevent misinformation and undue anxiety among students.
Speaking on the development, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NELFUND, Mr. Akintunde Sawyerr, restated the agency’s commitment to transparency and student welfare.
“NELFUND remains fully committed to ensuring that approved student loan funds are disbursed promptly and applied appropriately. We are working closely with all partner institutions to address administrative gaps and ensure that no eligible student is disadvantaged,” he said.
The Fund urged students and stakeholders to rely solely on official communications from NELFUND and their respective institutions. Students seeking clarification were advised to contact their institution’s bursary or student affairs office, while NELFUND continues engagement with UNILAG to conclude reconciliation.
