UBEC distributes 140,000 instructional materials to FCT schools

The Executive Secretary of the Universal Basic Education Commission, Dr. Aisha Garba, has reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to improving access to quality basic education across Nigeria.
Garba made this known on Thursday at the flag-off ceremony for the distribution of instructional materials to public basic schools in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), held at the Model Junior Secondary School.
The event, organised by the FCT Universal Basic Education Board in collaboration with UBEC, saw the rollout of about 140,000 instructional materials, including core subject textbooks, teacher resource packs and digital learning aids. The materials are expected to benefit no fewer than 10,000 pupils across the FCT.
Garba described the initiative as part of UBEC’s nationwide interventions aimed at strengthening teaching and learning outcomes. She noted that the Commission has continued to support states through investments in infrastructure, teacher development, teaching aids and digital tools.
She further disclosed that UBEC recently distributed 100,000 instructional materials to Integrated Qur’anic and Tsangaya Education centres nationwide, alongside over 400,000 library resources and millions of learning support kits to schools.
Commending the leadership of the FCT UBEB, Garba urged that the materials be promptly delivered to schools and effectively utilised by teachers to improve learning outcomes.
She also called on the FCT Administration to ensure timely release of counterpart funding for basic education projects to sustain such interventions and reduce the number of out-of-school children.
The UBEC boss emphasised that education remains central to national development, adding that ongoing efforts align with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda to provide inclusive and equitable education for every Nigerian child.
She urged teachers to maximise the use of the materials and encouraged pupils to embrace learning, stressing that education remains the foundation for future opportunities.
The ceremony attracted key education stakeholders, policymakers, teachers and development partners.
