Children’s Day: FG reaffirms commitment to education for all

The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting inclusive and quality education for every Nigerian child as part of activities marking the 2026 Children’s Day celebration.
The Honourable Minister of Education, Maruf Tunji Alausa, made the pledge while hosting children from different schools and backgrounds, alongside young disability advocate and actress, Dera Osadebe, at the Federal Ministry of Education headquarters in Abuja.
Speaking during the event, Dr. Alausa described Children’s Day as an important reminder of the collective responsibility to protect and empower Nigerian children through sustained investment in education, wellbeing, and equal opportunities.
According to him, every Nigerian child deserves access to quality learning and an environment where they can thrive irrespective of their social background or physical condition.
“Today is about celebrating the strength, creativity and limitless potential of our children. Every Nigerian child deserves to feel seen, heard, encouraged and supported to achieve their dreams regardless of background or circumstance,” the minister said.
Dr. Alausa commended Dera Osadebe for her growing advocacy for children living with disabilities and autism, noting that her courage and determination continue to inspire conversations around inclusion, empathy and equal opportunity in the country.
He said the young advocate’s efforts reflected the resilience and brilliance inherent in millions of Nigerian children and underscored the need for society to embrace inclusiveness in all sectors, especially education.
The minister explained that the Children’s Day celebration aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which prioritises child development, youth empowerment, inclusive education and improved access to quality learning opportunities nationwide.
He encouraged children across the country to remain confident in themselves, nurture their talents and contribute positively to national development.
“Children are at the heart of our nation’s future, and we must continue to create opportunities that allow them to learn, grow and succeed,” he stated.
The Federal Ministry of Education also reiterated its commitment to protecting the rights and wellbeing of Nigerian children through policies and programmes aimed at promoting safe learning environments, equal opportunities and a brighter future for all.
The event brought together children from various schools and communities across the country in a symbolic engagement designed to amplify the voices of Nigerian children and strengthen national support for child development and inclusive education.
