Suspected kidnappers kill DPO in Delta State
Suspected kidnappers on Monday killed the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) attached to Agbarho Division, Ughelli North Local Government Srea of Delta State.
The state Police command confirmed the killing through the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, who said the suspected kidnappers also shot the DPO attached to Orerokpe Division and is currently at the Intensive Care Unit in an undisclosed hospital.
SP Edafe said the Police teams were ambushed at the early Monday morning, and fired at, which led to the death of the DPO and others with various degrees of injuries.
He said, “For now, details about the killing are sketchy, but we only lost Agharho Police Division DPO.”
It was learnt that the whereabouts of one Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) remained unknown after the incident.
Sources, however, said the Police responded to distress calls at about 1:30 a.m on Monday that some persons had been kidnapped and their vehicle trapped at the Agbarho Railway Station.
“Immediately, the new DPO contacted his Orerokpo counterpart and they mobilised and went to the area. Unknown to them, the kidnappers had ambushed them and fired at them,” a source disclosed.
“The new Agbarho DPO was killed and his Orerokpo counterpart was seriously wounded and rushed to an undisclosed hospital. Other policemen in the team were also killed, but we don’t know their number.”
