NERDC disowns fake funding request for revised basic education curriculum

The Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC) has disowned a fake document circulating in the public domain seeking financial support for the production, printing and nationwide distribution of the Revised Basic Education Curriculum (BEC) for the 2026/2027 academic session.
The Executive Secretary of NERDC, Professor Salisu Shehu, issued the disclaimer in a statement on Monday in Abuja, describing the purported correspondence as fake, frivolous and unauthorized.
Shehu, who personally signed the statement, said the Council had never issued any letter or communication requesting financial assistance from individuals, organisations or institutions for the production, printing or distribution of the revised curriculum.
According to him, the document being circulated did not originate from NERDC and should be disregarded by members of the public.
“Our attention has been drawn to fictitious and frivolous documents and correspondences purported to emanate from the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council, requesting financial support for the production, printing and nationwide distribution of the Revised Basic Education Curriculum covering the 2026/2027 academic session,” the statement said.
He stressed that the management of the Council “strongly and unequivocally” dissociates itself from any such document or correspondence, irrespective of its source or mode of circulation.
The NERDC boss explained that adequate arrangements had already been made for the production, printing, dissemination and distribution of the revised curriculum through the appropriate federal and state education authorities, agencies and departments.
He urged government ministries, departments and agencies, educational institutions, development partners, stakeholders and the general public not to respond to any request purportedly issued by NERDC seeking financial support for the exercise.
Shehu further reassured stakeholders that the Council remains committed to transparency, diligence and professionalism in all its official communications, while safeguarding the integrity of Nigeria’s national curriculum.
He added that all authentic information concerning the implementation and distribution of the Revised Basic Education Curriculum would only be communicated through NERDC’s official channels.
The Council warned the public to remain vigilant against fraudulent requests made in its name and encouraged anyone in doubt to verify information directly through its authorised communication platforms before taking any action.
