Tinubu approves 3,252 PTA teachers’ recruitment for unity schools

The Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s approval of the recruitment of 3,252 verified Parents-Teachers Association (PTA) teachers into Federal Government Colleges, otherwise called Federal Unity Schools, describing it as a landmark intervention in strengthening Nigeria’s education sector.
This was disclosed in a release signed by Special Adviser on Media and Communications to the Minister,
Ikharo Attah, who said the approval reflects President Tinubu’s commitment to addressing the longstanding teacher shortage in unity colleges while rewarding PTA teachers who have served for nearly 25 years.
“This is a President who cares deeply for Nigeria and for the future of our country,” Dr Alausa said. “The President has approved the recruitment of teachers. Priority will be given to absorbing verified PTA teachers, many of whom have served in our Federal Unity Colleges and Federal Technical Colleges for almost 25 years.”
The minister said the recruitment, part of the Renewed Hope Agenda, followed a comprehensive verification process by an Inter-Ministerial Committee, which screened and confirmed 3,252 teachers across the cadres of Education Officers, Assistant Education Officers and Technical Instructors for regularisation.
He noted the exercise would improve the teacher-student ratio, preserve institutional knowledge and strengthen classroom instruction across the colleges, reaffirming that the ministry would work with relevant agencies to conclude the remaining statutory processes.
Dr Alausa thanked President Tinubu for the approval, describing it as further evidence of the administration’s resolve to prioritise education, and stressed that no education system could rise above the quality of its teachers.
“This administration is determined to ensure that every child in our Federal Unity Colleges is taught by qualified, motivated and professionally supported teachers,” he said, adding that the Ministry would sustain reforms aimed at improving learning outcomes and restoring public confidence in education.
He reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to ensuring the regularisation process is concluded transparently and in full compliance with due process, guaranteeing every learner in Federal Government Colleges access to quality education delivered by competent teachers.
