JAMB, WAEC announce one-time N4,000 verification for WASSCE results

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) have announced a new arrangement for the verification of West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) and other O’Level results for candidates seeking admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions.
Under the new arrangement, candidates whose admissions are regulated and coordinated by JAMB will be required to verify their WAEC results only once through the JAMB-provided Verification Service.
The two examination and admission bodies said the initiative was designed to enable candidates to verify their results from the comfort of their homes or any internet-enabled location, thereby reducing the stress and cost associated with repeated visits to institutions or JAMB-approved Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres.
In a joint statement issued by JAMB and WAEC, the organisations said candidates would pay a one-off fee of N4,000 for the verification of their WASSCE O’Level results.
The fee, they stressed, is to be paid through the specified verification platform and not to the tertiary institution to which a candidate is seeking admission.
The two bodies also clarified that candidates who have successfully completed the verification exercise will not be required to pay any additional verification fee to their institutions.
According to the statement, tertiary institutions are expected to utilise the verified results made available to them through JAMB for screening, admission processing and other relevant administrative purposes.
“Candidates shall not be required to pay for another verification,” the statement said.
WAEC has also authorised JAMB to share the outcome of the verification exercise with the relevant tertiary institutions for admission-related purposes.
The new arrangement, according to JAMB and WAEC, means that a candidate will verify the WASSCE O’Level result once, while the verified result can subsequently be used for multiple admission-related purposes.
The organisations urged candidates to take advantage of the improved system by completing their WASSCE O’Level result verification through the JAMB-provided Verification Service.
They said the collaboration was aimed at reducing unnecessary costs, eliminating repeated verification exercises and simplifying the admission process, while maintaining the integrity and security of candidates’ academic records.
JAMB and WAEC said the initiative further demonstrated their commitment to placing the interests of candidates at the centre of the Nigerian tertiary education admission process.
