The national curriculum of Nigerian schools needs to be changed.
At present, Nigeria overdepends on certificate qualification which has no correlation with economic growth and development. The attendant effects of certificate economy is stunted growth, examination malpractice, certificate forgery and cognate crimes.
Using credit pass in Mathematics and English Language as prerequisite for admission to higher schools and job placement is the bane our progress as a society that recommends diversification of the national economy.
Also overloading children in primary school and secondary school with subjects numbering up to 18 is rather killing the children’s brains.
If Nigeria deserves to develop technologically, she should allow children choose subjects of their interests right from primary school. Mathematics and English Language should not be required for admission and job placement. Practical ability should precede certificate qualification.
