Librarians urged to unite and improve knowledge of current events

Abuja.
Nigerian librarians have been urged to acquire modern knowledge of current affairs to keep abreast of activities that would help build robust libraries that would benefit students in their institutions.
Chairman, Nigerian Association of Libraries and Information Science Educators, [NALISE], Professor Udo Nwokocha said in an interview that librarians cannot afford to be left behind in the rapidly expanding information age where technology has started replacing human beings in the workplaces.
Professor Nwokocha explained that this year’s conference of librarians which was held at the University of Abuja was organized to acquaint librarians with the latest technological growth in the industry and to remind them of the need for them to acquire current knowledge to remain relevant in the scheme of things.
The library association chairman commended the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Abuja, Professor Abdulrasheed Na’Állah for accepting to host the 2021 conference of the librarians which was the first since after the COVID-19 pandemic.
He stated that every state of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory were represented in this year’s conference which was also used to explore the performance of the executive after three years in office and to prepare grounds for a new election expected to take place next year.
“It is worth celebrating that the Nigerian Association of Libraries and Information Science Educators, has remained consistent in the publication of books and journals arising from papers presented at relevant conferences.
“We did this after the materials were subjected to critical peer review processes and we have kept faith to deliver on our mandate despite the hard economic situation in the country,” Professor Udo Nwokocha said.
