Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari defies IPOB, lands in Imo, begins projects commissioning

President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday morning, landed at the Sam Mbakwe Airport in Owerri, Imo the state capital, where he was received by dignitaries.

There had  been fears in some quarters that Buhari should not visit Owerri, the Igbo heartland due to threats by the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), who are clamouring to break out of Nigeria to Biafra.

Issue of Biafra had led Nigeria to civil war led by Col. Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu on the secessionist side and General Yakubu Gowon leading the Nigerian federal government.

Buhari is expected to commission a number of projects executed by Governor Uzodinma, who is the only governor elected on the platform of the ruling All Progressives  Congress (APC) in all Igbo states in southeast Nigeria
