SERVICOM seeks more funding for unity schools

The National Coordinator/CEO SERVICOM Office in the Presidency, Mrs. Nnenna Akajemeli, has called for timely funding for unity schools to improve service delivery.
She stated this during the presentation of SERVICOM Compliance Evaluation (SCE) reports of 34 unity schools nationwide to the Federal Ministry of Education Tuesday in Abuja.
The SERVICOM boss said the inadequacy of basic amenities could lead to slow delivery and poor quality standard in education.
Akajemeli said many of the schools evaluated are rated with fair service due to insufficient materials, equipment and lack of sufficient trained manpower.
“With active partnership, you can go around and improve the provision of staff to remedy the shortage of staff especially the academic staff.
We need to activate and energise them so we can work together for a better education for our children,” she added.
Akajemeli lauded the support and consistency of the ministry towards the improvements of the education sector, adding that SERVICOM in schools are in dire need of an active network for driving improvement in collaboration with principals of the schools in question.
Similarly, the Minister of State for Education, Hon. Chukwuemeka Nwajuba said, the evaluation report will serve as a wakeup call to all staff of the ministry, management and all other stakeholders.
“There’s a lot for improvement, most of the principals don’t like my scheduled impromptu visits to their schools and so SERVICOM is helping us do our work and the report will also help us to continue to partner with SERVICOM to advance the sector.”
Earlier, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Mr. Sonny Echono, urged the stakeholders not to raise an eyebrow to the report because, “the report isn’t a personal attack on any principal of the ministry or schools but about holding ourselves accountable and also working to ensure that we improve what has been assigned to us by the federal government.
