In the ever-evolving landscape of Nigerian politics and governance, collaboration between Federal and state governments has always been the linchpin for meaningful development. It is in this light that Governor Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto State’s steadfast support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda deserves both recognition and commendation.

His alignment with the national vision of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu not only reflects political maturity and loyalty, but also signifies a strategic foresight that positions Sokoto for long-term socio-economic transformation.

At the recent meeting of the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF) held in Birnin Kebbi, Governor Aliyu joined 23 of his counterparts elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in reaffirming support for President Tinubu’s administration. The gathering, chaired by Senator Hope Uzodimma of Imo State, was a significant moment in Nigeria’s democratic journey, as it demonstrated unity among progressive leaders and a collective resolve to deliver the dividends of democracy to the people.

Governor Aliyu’s presence and contribution at the meeting were more than ceremonial. He symbolised a deep and purposeful commitment to ensuring that Sokoto remains in sync with the Federal Government’s overarching development agenda.

His spokesman, Abubakar Bawa, aptly captured this spirit when he said that Governor Aliyu was working “in synergy with the Federal Government to ensure that Sokoto people fully benefit from the Renewed Hope policies, especially in agriculture, social welfare, and infrastructure.”

This synergy between Sokoto and the Presidency represents an invaluable advantage for the state.

In the history of Nigerian federalism, states that align constructively with the centre often find themselves better positioned to attract federal attention, projects, and investments. Governor Aliyu understands this political and developmental truth, that cordial relations with Aso Rock Villa are not about subservience, but about strategic collaboration that yields real benefits for the citizenry.

Under President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, Nigeria has prioritised three key pillars — economic recovery, food security, and sustainable development. These are precisely the areas that hold immense potential for Sokoto State. With its vast arable land and agricultural heritage, Sokoto is naturally poised to become a major beneficiary of the federal government’s drive for food self-sufficiency.

The Renewed Hope agricultural reform programme, which focuses on modern farming techniques, mechanisation, and improved access to credit, dovetails perfectly with Governor Aliyu’s efforts to revitalise the agricultural sector in the state.

Already, the governor has taken bold steps to reposition Sokoto’s farming communities through the provision of inputs, empowerment of local farmers, and the rehabilitation of irrigation facilities. By aligning closely with the federal policy direction, Sokoto stands to benefit from increased agricultural investment, extension services, and federal grants aimed at boosting production. The result will be improved rural livelihoods, reduced poverty, and enhanced food availability — a true reflection of the Renewed Hope philosophy.

Beyond agriculture, Governor Aliyu’s cordial relationship with President Tinubu is likely to translate into accelerated infrastructural development across Sokoto. Federal projects in road construction, housing, and energy are expected to gain momentum in the coming months as the Renewed Hope infrastructure plan unfolds nationwide. Sokoto, being a key link between Nigeria and neighbouring Niger Republic, stands to benefit from improved road networks and border trade facilitation. The expansion of federal presence in the state — through projects such as highways, power transmission lines, and water schemes — will not only boost economic activity but also enhance Sokoto’s role as a regional hub for commerce and education.

Social welfare is another area where Sokoto’s alignment with the Tinubu administration promises great dividends. The Renewed Hope social investment programmes, including youth empowerment, conditional cash transfers, and women’s entrepreneurship schemes, are designed to provide immediate relief to vulnerable Nigerians while fostering inclusive growth. With Governor Aliyu’s commitment to transparency and people-centred governance, these programmes are likely to be implemented effectively in Sokoto, reaching those who need them most.

The governor’s collaboration with federal agencies will ensure that Sokoto’s share of social investment is maximised, thereby improving the living standards of thousands of families across the state.

Equally important is the political harmony that the cordial relationship between Governor Aliyu and President Tinubu fosters. Nigeria’s democracy thrives best when there is cooperation rather than confrontation between different tiers of government. The mutual respect and understanding between both leaders create a conducive environment for development planning, policy implementation, and conflict resolution. It also strengthens the ruling party, the APC, ensuring that the party remains united in purpose and capable of delivering good governance at all levels.

Governor Aliyu’s calm, disciplined, and loyal disposition mirrors President Tinubu’s inclusive leadership style. Both leaders share a pragmatic understanding that governance is not about political grandstanding but about service delivery and tangible results. In a political climate often defined by friction and blame, their cordiality stands as an example of how cooperation can produce progress.

As the Progressive Governors’ Forum continues to promote inter-state collaboration and innovation, Sokoto’s active participation under Governor Aliyu’s leadership will expose the state to fresh ideas, technical partnerships, and policy exchanges that can accelerate its growth. Through the governor’s close ties with the centre and his participation in national decision-making circles, Sokoto will continue to enjoy a front-row seat in Nigeria’s reform and development agenda.

In all, Governor Aliyu’s support for President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda is not only a mark of political alignment but also a visionary act of governance. It is a demonstration of loyalty with purpose — loyalty that seeks progress for the people rather than personal gain.

As the Renewed Hope reforms continue to reshape Nigeria’s economic and social landscape, Sokoto State stands to gain immensely from this partnership, under their visionary governor.

With President Tinubu, the people of Sokoto can look forward to a new era of hope, growth, and prosperity — a future built on unity, collaboration, and the unwavering belief that governance works best when leaders work together.
