UBEC condemns Kebbi school attack, mourns fallen teacher and abducted students

The Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) has expressed profound shock and sorrow over the tragic attack on Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, in Kebbi State, in the early hours of Monday.
In a statement, the Executive Secretary of UBEC, Aisha Garba, conveyed the Commission’s heartfelt condolences to the Kebbi State Government, the Kebbi State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), and the people of the state. She joined them in mourning the devastating incident and standing in solidarity with the families affected.
Garba described the teacher who lost her life during the attack as “a brave soul who made the ultimate sacrifice while doing what teachers across our nation do every day, caring for and protecting our children.”
She assured the families of the abducted students that UBEC shares in their anguish and remains hopeful for the safe return of the girls. She also offered prayers for the injured staff member and all others impacted by the tragedy.
Reaffirming UBEC’s commitment to safeguarding learning environments, the Executive Secretary said the Commission will continue to work with government partners, community leaders, security agencies, and state SUBEBs—including Kebbi State—to bolster school security, support affected communities, and ensure that no child’s education is halted by fear.
“Today, we mourn with the people of Kebbi State,” Garba stated. “We stand together—in grief, in solidarity, and in our unwavering resolve to ensure that our schools remain safe spaces for every child.”
