Determined
to rid the main and Kobo campuses of the Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University,
Lapai (IBBUL), in Niger State, pockets of violence and other minor security
challenges, the school management has organised a five-day training workshop
for its security personnel and cadet officers.
The training
was themed: “Tackling security challenges in tertiary institutions”.
The vice
chancellor of the institution, Professor Muhammad Nasir Maiturare, while
declaring the strategic workshop open, reaffirmed the university management’s
commitment to the training and retraining of staff.
This,
Professor Maiturare said, was aimed at getting them acquainted with the latest
trends in the discharge of their duties.
He noted
that security personnel  have a major
role to play in the effort to create a conducive teaching and learning
environment, saying that organising regular capacity-building workshops by
schools and other public institutions become necessary in the light of the
prevailing insecurity across the country.
“I have no
doubt that DeepCover Guards Limited will deliver on the training’s mandates.
They will educate our security cadets on the global trend of
intelligence-gathering, policing and latest crime-control strategies. We
appreciate the good works of DeepCover Guards, who are IBBUL’s life partner
when it comes to providing maximum security for our staff and students,” he
said.
Maiturare
disclosed that members of staff who performed brilliantly during the training,
and thereafter reflect the knowledge they gained on their job, would be duly
rewarded.
On his part,
the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the security company, Major-General Shehu
Abdulkadir (rtd), commended the VC and the entire management board for
organising and sponsoring the training.
He said the
courses to be taught during the workshop would avail participants with
requisite knowledge-based skills, which will enhance their capacity to handle
complex security challenges on campus.
“This laudable partnership between IBBUL and
DeepCover Guards is one with great potential. It is one that will help proffer
a lasting solution to various issues of insecurity on IBBUL’s campuses.
Highpoint of
the ceremony was the presentation of souvenirs to Maiturare and other principal
officers of the institution by DeepCover Guards’ boss.
