The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has extended the application deadline for the 2025/2026 academic session, shifting it from January 31, 2026, to February 27, 2026, in a move aimed at ensuring wider access for eligible students.
A statement signed by the Director of Strategic Communications, Nigerian Education Loan Fund, Mrs. Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, on Thursday, said the extension is intended to provide prospective applicants with additional time to complete and submit their applications, particularly those who may have encountered challenges meeting the earlier deadline.
NELFUND emphasized that the decision aligns with its mandate to promote inclusivity and equitable access to educational financing across the country.
Speaking on the development, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NELFUND, Mr. Akintunde Sawyerr, said the extension reflects the Fund’s commitment to supporting Nigerian students without exclusion.
“This extension reflects our commitment to inclusivity and access. We understand that some applicants may require additional time to complete their submissions, and this decision ensures that every eligible Nigerian student has a fair opportunity to benefit from the Fund,” Sawyerr stated.
He reiterated that the education loan scheme remains a critical intervention designed to remove financial barriers to higher education, particularly for students from low- and middle-income households.
NELFUND encouraged students who have not yet applied, as well as those who have started but not completed their applications, to take advantage of the extended deadline. Applicants are advised to ensure that all required information and supporting documents are accurately submitted on or before February 27, 2026, as late submissions will not be considered.
The Fund also assured applicants of transparency and efficiency in the processing of applications, noting that continuous improvements are being made to enhance user experience on its application platform.
Further information and updates regarding the application process will be communicated through NELFUND’s official channels.
