APC Primaries: Why Jigawa people are standing firmly behind Gov Namadi

The emergence of Umar Namadi as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress for the 2027 general election did not come as a surprise to many political observers in Jigawa State. To supporters across the state’s 27 local government areas, the development merely reflects the growing confidence people have in a leader they believe has remained focused on governance, humility and development-oriented policies.
Since assuming office as governor, Umar Namadi has steadily built a reputation as a calm but determined administrator who prefers practical results to loud political drama. In a political environment where citizens increasingly demand visible impact, many Jigawa residents see his administration as one that listens, responds and delivers.
One major factor that endeared him to the people is his strong commitment to continuity and stability in governance. Rather than abandoning projects initiated by previous administrations, Namadi chose to consolidate on existing foundations while introducing his own development agenda. This approach reassured many citizens who were tired of the cycle of abandoned projects and policy reversals that often accompany political transitions in Nigeria.
His administration’s emphasis on agriculture has also earned him widespread support. Jigawa remains one of Nigeria’s leading agrarian states, and many families depend directly on farming and livestock activities for survival. By prioritising agricultural support programmes, irrigation expansion, access to fertilisers and improved seedlings, the governor connected directly with the daily realities of ordinary citizens. Farmers across rural communities increasingly view the government as a partner rather than a distant authority.
Another important reason for his popularity is his attention to infrastructure and rural development. Across many communities, road construction and rehabilitation projects have improved movement and economic activities. Rural electrification and water projects have equally helped reduce hardship in underserved areas.
For many residents, these projects represent more than physical structures; they symbolise inclusion and recognition by government.
Education is another sector where Umar Namadi has gained public admiration. Many parents and stakeholders acknowledge , aimed at improving learning environments, expanding access to schools and addressing educational challenges. In a state where education remains critical to long-term social progress, his policies have strengthened public confidence in the administration’s direction.

At a time when Nigerians are demanding greater accountability from public office holders, the perception that Jigawa’s resources are being utilised for public benefit has worked in his favour. Within the APC political structure, Namadi is viewed as one of the governors working closely with the federal government while ensuring that national policies translate into local development opportunities for his people.

Importantly, Umar Namadi’s leadership style has helped maintain unity within the APC in Jigawa State. While many states continue to battle internal divisions and defections, Jigawa APC has largely remained cohesive under his watch. His ability to manage party interests without allowing disputes to destabilise governance has impressed party loyalists and grassroots mobilisers.
For many citizens, his appeal also lies in consistency. People often judge leaders not only by promises but by attitude, discipline and dedication over time. Namadi has projected himself as a leader more interested in service than political showmanship. In a region where voters increasingly value sincerity and simplicity, this image has become a major political asset.
As preparations for the 2027 general elections gradually intensify, the APC’s decision to hand Umar Namadi its governorship ticket reflects both political calculation and public sentiment. To many Jigawa residents, he represents continuity, stability and a leadership approach rooted in development and people-centred governance.
Ultimately, politics is shaped by public perception, and in Jigawa today, many citizens appear convinced that Umar Namadi has earned another opportunity to continue his work. Whether through infrastructure, agriculture, education or his modest leadership style, the governor has succeeded in building a strong connection with the people — a connection that now forms the foundation of his growing political strength ahead of 2027.
