Professor Segun Aina now JAMB registrar

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), replacing Professor Is-haq Oloyede, whose two-term tenure expires on July 31, 2026.
At 39, Professor Aina already holds the distinction of being one of Nigeria’s youngest Computer Engineering professors. His appointment means he will also make history as JAMB’s youngest registrar when he assumes office.
A Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Aina brings over 15 years of post-graduation experience spanning technology, public policy, and institutional reform.
He holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent, an MSc in Internet Computing and Network Security, and a PhD in Digital Signal Processing — both from Loughborough University in the United Kingdom. He has also completed the Senior Management Programme at Lagos Business School.
His connection to JAMB dates back to his National Youth Service, during which he gained foundational exposure to national admissions processes and data-driven institutional management — experience that has since informed his work in examination reform and systems optimisation.
Beyond the classroom, Professor Aina has advised federal and state governments on system design, digital transition, and operational reform. He has served as a consultant to major examination bodies, including NECO and NABTEB, as well as various State Ministries of Education, providing expertise on ICT systems, examination integrity, and digital process improvement.
He is a member of several professional bodies, including the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).
President Tinubu expressed confidence that Professor Aina’s technical expertise and reform experience would position him to build on the considerable achievements of his predecessor, taking JAMB to greater heights.
Professor Oloyede, who has led JAMB since 2016, oversaw a decade of significant transformation at the board, including the full digitisation of its operations and a dramatic improvement in the integrity of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
His exit marks the end of an era widely regarded as one of the most consequential in the board’s history.
Professor Aina, who turns 40 in July, assumes leadership of one of Nigeria’s most consequential educational institutions at a time of growing public scrutiny over the credibility and conduct of national examinations.
