Taraba NSE inducts new members, tackles food security

The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) has inducted new corporate members to improve membership growth.
The induction ceremony took place in Jalingo Taraba State capital, during the National Workshop, Public lecture, and inauguration of 2024/2025 newly elected officials.
Delivering his welcome speech, the Taraba State chairman of the association, Engr. Collins Awosika, said the NSE engineering week is to proffer solution on issues confronting the society, especially the challenges of food security in Nigeria, climate change, population growth, resource depletion, artificial intelligence, and resilience food supply, and then offer innovative solutions to enhance crop yield.
Collins stressed that the workshop was designed to critically find a way to reduce waste, ensure food safety and security, and promote eco-friendly farming methods.
He maintains that the workshop will unite scholars and engineering experts as well as practitioners to share knowledge, ideas on global best practice of engineering as profession to harness artificial intelligence for sustaining agricultural future.
Engr. Awosika urged the newly inducted members to adhere to the professional ethics, work with the sense of responsibility, operate within the code of practice and never compromise on standard.
Collins whose leadership tenure elapses in 2024, disclosed that his stewardship as the branch chairman has recorded tremendous achievements, such as regular holding of branch meetings with technical paper presentations, membership drive, membership growth, engagement and collaboration with other sectors, maintenance and improvement in the construction of the NSE Secretariat located at Mile Six in Jalingo metropolis.
Other significant milestones recorded are, acquisition of Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) for the branch’s landed property, provides manpower for Taraba State University for accreditation of engineering courses, among others.
Speaking at the induction of the 12 new members into the association, the National Vice President of NSE, Engr. Danladi Ushiki Adamu, called on the inductees and the newly inaugurated officials to work with one voice and take the branch to greater heights.
