Dikko as unique gift to Katsina state
By Jamilu Wada Aliyu
The All Progressives Congress, (APC) governorship candidate in Katsina state, Dr Dikko Umar Radda, has emerged the winner of Saturday March 18 governorship poll.
Dikko, a former director of Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency (SMEDAN) polled 859,892 votes to beat the Peoples Democratic Party candidate, Garba Yakubu Lado who scored 486,620 votes.
This is the Katsina state governorship candidate on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who famously received 1,500 defectors from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by a former councillor in Rimi local government area, Abdul’aziz Makwalla, into the APC fold during the electioneering.
He received the defectors while rounding off his campaign tour in Katsina senatorial district where he donated eight motorcycles to members of the Vigilante Groups of Nigeria (VGN) in Rimi and Kurfi local government areas of the state.
Fighting insecurity and banditry is one of Dikko’s most important promise for his people. Thus reinforcing his vow on insecurity that has ravaged Katsina state, he donated five motorcycles in Rimi and three to Wurma community vigilantes in Kurfi local government area.
Dikko had earlier reiterated his determination to fight insecurity in the state if elected governor.
He also promised to create job opportunities for the unemployed youths, enhance healthcare facilities and improve farming by using modern methods.
The pro-people gesture of Dikko personal charisma had made it possible for 1,500 PDP members, led by a former councillor, to defect to APC in Rimi local government area.
Not yet done on security threats, Dikko fearlessly took his campaign to the bandits’ enclaves, even as he vowed to eliminate hoodlums and the terror they unleashed on the state.
The campaign to bandits’ enclaves was part of Dikko’s ongoing ward-to-ward campaign that wooed fro APC eligible voters for the Saturday March 18, guber polls.
Demonstrating his practical ability to protect his people, Dikko traversed dangerous areas believed to be the stronghold of bandits in Batsari and Safana local government areas of the state.
He said after his visits to all dangerous spots in the state that he would adopt all measures in the book to tackle insecurity in the state as governor.
He thus courageously went through places that were said to be no-go areas because of the activities of the criminal elements.
To the admiration of his supporters, Dikko said no danger could stop him from visiting any place, to see for himself the condition in which his compatriots live.
While most politicians blow their own trumpet, Dikko is a silent achiever. All his monumental achievements as SMEDAN boss and now governor- elect were hinged on his self-evident principle that leadership is not for personal aggrandisement, but a call to duty; to serve rather than to be served.
It is unarguable that Dikko excels in various ways of life. He stands tall among his contemporaries. He is a shining light that shapes his environment and the world.
Dikko is indeed an undisputable orator and a pragmatic talker. He has brought progress and global attention to the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN). He sold the agency to the global community in an unprecedented manner through his visionary leadership. His exemplary life, integrity and doggedness lifted the largest small and medium enterprises development agency to greater heights during his time as its DG. So this former SMEDAN boss is more than qualified for his present job as governor of Katsina state becsuse he had run the gamut of public office and state governance.
Dikko, a former teacher, banker, local government chairman and the director general of SMEDAN as well as the chief of staff to the governor of Katsina state, has seen it all and well prepared for the onerous job ahead.
Why wouldn’t Katsina people go for a man who perdonalised their socio-economic problems and security at the expense of his life and family? For Dikko, humanity is his religion.
Therefore, Katsina people should get set for a new lease of life under Dikko because he possesses the traits, pedigree, integrity and capacity to drive the state through the pathway of phenomenal positive transformation to a destination where it will earnestly reflect the state’s slogan as Home of Hospitality.
The ruling APC in Katsina state has a far better chance with Dikko as its governor than with any other individual. This is so because of his ability to respond to complex questions at the snap of a finger. His good leadership qualities that evoke confidence and experience defined his unique service in the numerous public offices he had headed before now.
Dr Umaru Dikko Radda is a unique gift to Katsina state at its critical democratic history so he deserves to be celebrated by all of us.
