FG commends Kano’s education drive,
says smart schools, quality teachers key to Nigeria’s future

The Federal Government has praised the Kano State Government for its sustained investment in education, describing quality teachers as the foundation of national development and a globally competitive education system.
Speaking at the presentation of appointment letters to 4,900 newly recruited teachers and 3,688 Better Education Service Delivery for All (BESDA) Cohort V facilitators in Kano, the Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa, urged the new teachers to uphold professionalism, dedication and excellence in the classroom.
Dr. Alausa commended Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for making education a top governance priority through massive investments in teacher recruitment, school infrastructure and improved learning outcomes.
“You are the most important people in our society. If we have good teachers teaching Nigerian children, we will produce very good students. Love them, nurture them and teach them well,” the minister said, reminding the beneficiaries that “much is given, much is expected.”
He described Kano’s allocation of 32 per cent of its budget to education as a demonstration of genuine commitment to human capital development, noting that the recruitment of nearly 9,000 teachers and facilitators brings the total number employed by the administration to about 16,000 within three years.
“In some states, no single teacher has been recruited in decades. Here in Kano, the Governor has employed 16,000 teachers in just three years. This is what human capital development looks like,” Alausa stated.
The minister also applauded the state’s wider development efforts, including road reconstruction and the installation of solar-powered streetlights, saying they complement the education reforms and align with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
As part of his visit, Dr Alausa inspected the Tarda Smart School in Ungogo Local Government Area, where he reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to expanding technology-driven learning nationwide.
He said smart schools would equip learners with the digital knowledge and skills required for the 21st-century economy.
He also visited Bayero University, Kano, before commissioning the newly completed Government Girls Secondary School, Dangwaro, built to expand access to quality education for girls.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf described the presentation of appointment letters as a major milestone in Kano’s education reform agenda, stressing that the exercise is about securing the future of millions of children through access to qualified and committed teachers.
He said the recruitment of 4,900 permanent teachers alongside 3,688 BESDA Cohort V facilitators reflects his administration’s determination to ensure every classroom is staffed with competent educators capable of delivering quality learning experience.
Reaffirming education as the cornerstone of his administration’s development agenda, the governor thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Federal Ministry of Education, Minister of State for Education, Professor Suwaiba Sa’id Ahmad, and development partners for their support in strengthening education in Kano State.
Dr. Alausa assured Nigerians that the Federal Ministry of Education would continue collaborating with states and development partners to improve teacher quality, expand modern learning infrastructure and accelerate reforms aimed at delivering equitable, inclusive and globally competitive education across the country.
