FG hails Oyo teachers’ return to classroom

The Federal Government has commended the suspension of the teachers’ strike in Oyo State, describing it as a major victory for dialogue and the education of Nigerian children.
This was disclosed in a statement issued by the Director of Press and Public Relations, Federal Ministry of Education, Boriowo Folasade, who explained that the resolution followed sustained engagement among the Federal Ministry of Education, the Oyo State Government and the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) at national, zonal and state levels, paving the way for teachers to return to classrooms and restoring uninterrupted learning across the state.
Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa, said the successful resolution reflected the collective commitment of all stakeholders to place the interests, safety and future of learners above every other consideration.
“I am glad to report today that the strike has been suspended. Teachers are now returning to school to educate their students. This is the result of our collaboration and coordination with the leadership of the National Union of Teachers and the Government of Oyo State,” the Minister stated.
Dr Alausa commended the governor of Oyo State, Engr Seyi Makinde, for his exemplary leadership in resolving the impasse through dialogue. He also appreciated the national president of NUT, Comrade Audu Titus Amba; the zonal president, Comrade Hassan Ajibola Fatai, and the leadership of the Oyo State wing of the union for their statesmanship in prioritising learners’ interests.
The minister reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to ensuring uninterrupted access to quality education for every Nigerian child, despite prevailing security challenges.
“Our children will remain in school, and we will continue to educate them. We will not succumb to terror,” he said, stressing that the administration remained resolute in confronting insecurity and safeguarding schools.
He also paid tribute to teachers nationwide for their patriotism and dedication, describing them as indispensable partners in national development.
The ministry reaffirmed its resolve to work with state governments, unions, security agencies and other stakeholders to strengthen school safety and safeguard every child’s right to quality education, in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
