Gov. Ahmed Aliyu’s proactive war on insecurity

Insecurity has for years remained Sokoto’s greatest challenge. Banditry, cattle rustling and kidnapping have left communities traumatised and livelihoods disrupted. Yet, in the midst of this storm, Governor Ahmed Aliyu has stood out for his ability to act swiftly, decisively, and with foresight.
The recent distribution of 10 Hilux patrol vehicles and 150 motorcycles to security agencies as contained in a release signed by Director-General, Media and Publicity. Sokoto State Government, Abubakar Bawa, on Thursday, is the latest proof of his proactive leadership.
It is not the first time either. Since assuming office, his administration has already handed over 170 operational vehicles to strengthen the fight against banditry.
Swift response, clear vision
What makes Governor Aliyu’s approach remarkable is his sense of urgency. Security agencies asked for logistics, and within weeks, he responded. No delays. No bottlenecks. Just action.
In a country where leaders are often accused of paying lip-service to security challenges, this is refreshing. It shows a governor who understands that insecurity cannot be wished away, it must be tackled with resources, strategy, and resolve.
Fairness and strategy
The allocation of these assets was no political favour. It was strategic. The police and army received four Hilux vans each, while the DSS and Air Force got one each. The motorcycles, so critical for rough terrain patrols, were shared judiciously: 20 for the army, 15 for the police, and 4 for the Air Force.
Such fairness reveals Governor Aliyu’s sagacity in governance. He is not throwing money at problems; he is matching resources with operational needs. That is what good leadership looks like.
Answering detractors
Of course, there are those who seek to undermine every people-centred policy of this administration. To them, nothing is ever enough. But governance is not about pleasing armchair critics, it is about delivering real results.
The farmers who can now return to their fields with less fear, the traders who can move goods across highways with more confidence, and the families who can sleep better at night are the true judges. Their safety speaks louder than the cynicism of detractors.
Shared responsibility
Governor Aliyu also understands that security is a shared responsibility. His call for residents to support security agencies with intelligence and prayers is not just rhetoric. It is an invitation to collective personalisation of the fight against banditry.
The Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Musa, has already pledged to use the new logistics strictly for their intended purpose. With the tools now available, security agencies can respond faster, patrol wider, and protect better.
Security as the foundation
Governor Aliyu’s 9-point agenda places security at its core. And rightly so, no progress in education, healthcare, or economic growth is possible without peace. By making security his priority, the governor is laying the foundation for wider development across Sokoto.
A sagacious statesman
The real measure of leadership is impact. These patrol vehicles and motorcycles are not just statistics on paper; they are assets that will be seen on the roads, in the forests, and across vulnerable communities. They represent safety, stability, and renewed confidence.
Governor Ahmed Aliyu has once again shown sagacity, foresight, and commitment to his people. He has refused to be distracted by detractors and instead focused on the heavy responsibility of governance.
Today Sokoto is witnessing proactive leadership in action. While critics talk, Governor Aliyu works. While others delay, he delivers. And while cynics doubt, he reassures his people through visible, tangible results.
Aliyu’s governance style is worth emulating.
