The United States Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr Richard Mills Jnr, has extolled Gov. Ahmed Aliyu’s 9-Point agenda for the state.
In a release by Press Secretary to Sokoto State Government, Abubakar Bawa, on Thursday, Mr Mills Jnr commended the governor when he paid a courtesy call on him in the Government House, Sokoto.
Governor Aliyu’s 9-Point agenda for Sokoto State has been garnering significant attention locally and globally.
Therefore, this endorsement is a testament to the governor’s visionary leadership and commitment to transforming the state.
The governor has taken concrete steps to enhance security, providing 130 vehicles to security agencies and establishing a local security outfit, Community Guards.

Mills Jnr said he was in Sokoto to brainstorm with Gov. Aliyu on his areas of priority for the state.
“I have heard and impressed with the 9-Point agenda which the governor has laid out.
“It touches many areas that we feel are the most dear to you; security, education and youth empowerment, among others, “he said.
Mr Mills Jnr also said he was in the state to find out how the US programmes have been going on. He described Sokoto State as very important in the religious and political spheres in the country.
The governor commended the US government for the various initiatives it has introduced such as the USAID programmes that have made a.lot of impact on the lives of people of the state. His commendation of the US Government’s initiatives, particularly USAID programmes, highlights the significant positive impact these programmes have had on the lives of people in Sokoto State.
Some of the Key Initiatives and their impact:
Northern Education Initiative Plus (NEI Plus): this programme has improved reading outcomes for almost a million children in Bauchi and Sokoto states, with over 269,000 out-of-school children benefiting from the initiative.
USAID has distributed over nine million teaching and learning materials to 7,900 schools in Sokoto State, enhancing the quality of education in the state.
The US Government has provided 3.85 million bed nets to some northern states, contributing to the fight against malaria.
USAID has supported 500,000 children orphaned or made vulnerable by the AIDS epidemic, and 125,000 of their caregivers.
USAID’s iWASH activity aims to improve water resource management, increase access to proper sanitation, and promote good hygiene behaviours in Kebbi and Sokoto states.
The programme will rehabilitate water points, construct new solar-powered boreholes, and build latrines and handwashing stations.
These initiatives demonstrate the US Government’s commitment to improving the lives of people in Sokoto State, and Governor Aliyu’s commendation acknowledges the tangible benefits these programmes have brought to the community.
SOSG is working hard to improve the lots of people of the state, through the provision of infrastructure, healthcare delivery, water supply, provision of quality education as well as youth empowerment and security.
In the area of security, the government has distributed 130 patrol vehicles to the security agencies to enhance the fight against bandits, established the Sokoto State Community Guards Corps, procured 40 patrol vehicles and 700 motorcycles for the corps as well as the provision of the needed facilities for the operationalization of the Air Force Base in the state.
He has also restored and reviewed upward the monthly allowance given to the security personnel deployed to flash points in the state.
On the issue of state Police, discussion was ongoing between the federal and state governments, with a view to coming up with a framework on how best it can be implemented.
Governor Aliyu’s tireless efforts for the people of Sokoto State have indeed not gone unnoticed, both domestically and internationally. This is why the US Ambassador to Nigeria, Richard Mills Jr. expressed satisfaction with the agenda and indicated the US government’s readiness to assist in achieving its goals.
