Gov. Lawal visits UBEC h/qtrs, reaffirms commitment to strengthening basic education

The Executive Governor of Zamfara State, Dr Dauda Lawal, on paid a courtesy visit to the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) headquarters in Abuja Thursday. The visit formed part of a familiarisation effort aimed at strengthening collaboration and reinforcing shared goals in the development of basic education.
In his remarks, Governor Lawal congratulated the Executive Secretary of UBEC, Dr Aisha Garba, on her well-earned appointment, and commended the Commission for the notable progress it has recorded under her stewardship. He also outlined his administration’s ongoing efforts to address the educational challenges inherited at the start of his tenure.
The Governor reaffirmed Zamfara State’s commitment to aligning with UBEC’s programmes and initiatives, expressing strong interest in deepening partnerships that will drive transformation within the state’s basic education sector.
Speaking on behalf of the Commission, the Deputy Executive Secretary (Services), commended the Governor for his clear dedication to basic education delivery, describing his leadership as a commendable demonstration of political will. He further assured the governor of UBEC’s unwavering support, noting that Zamfara has become one of the leading states showing significant improvement in basic education under the current administration.
In her address, Dr Garba expressed gratitude for the governor’s visit and lauded the substantial strides achieved during his relatively short time in office. She reiterated UBEC’s readiness to collaborate closely with Zamfara State, pledging continued support to consolidate and expand upon the gains recorded.
Dr Garba highlighted several of the governor’s notable achievements in the education sector, including:the successful return of teachers from industrial action; launch of a state-wide campaign to reintegrate out-of-school children; restoration and rehabilitation of dilapidated school infrastructure; and
the distribution of teaching and learning materials to over 250 public schools.
The meeting concluded with a joint commitment from both UBEC and the Zamfara State Government to deepen cooperation, drive innovation, and prioritise inclusive, quality education for all children across the state.
