Gov Namadi: Foresight, faith, people’s welfare in action

In Jigawa State, Governor Umar Namadi has once again demonstrated a rare quality of governance that goes beyond mere rhetoric. His administration’s recent approval of ₦3.4 billion to the Pilgrims Welfare Board for the settlement of the 2026 Hajj quota is not just an administrative decision, it is an act of foresight, empathy, and God-conscious leadership.
Hajj, as one of the five pillars of Islam, occupies a central place in the life of every Muslim. It is a journey of spiritual renewal, self-sacrifice, and devotion to Allah. For many faithful, the opportunity to perform this sacred duty comes only once in a lifetime. By securing Jigawa’s Hajj seats well ahead of time, Gov Namadi has shown not only organisational prudence but also a heartfelt understanding of the religious aspirations of his people. He has ensured that no son or daughter of Jigawa will be deprived of this opportunity due to poor planning or delays, thereby removing anxieties and reaffirming his commitment to the spiritual uplift of the state.
Yet, true governance does not rest solely on the spiritual. The material welfare of citizens remains a daily concern, particularly in a climate of rising living costs. In recognition of this reality, the Jigawa State Executive Council also approved the establishment of 28 additional subsidised shops across the state, building upon the resounding success of the earlier initiative rolled out across the 27 local government areas. These shops, rented at affordable rates, will serve as distribution points for essential goods at prices within the reach of ordinary families.
This double stride—securing Hajj quotas and expanding subsidised shops—tells a greater story about Gov Namadi’s style of leadership. He understands that governance must address both the soul and the stomach. A people weighed down by hunger cannot focus on worship, and a people deprived of spiritual fulfilment cannot find contentment in material wealth alone. To approve funds for Hajj, an act tied to one of Islam’s most sacred obligations, while simultaneously strengthening economic relief measures, portrays him as a God-fearing leader who sees governance not as an opportunity for personal enrichment, but as a divine trust to serve humanity. It is this consciousness of accountability before God and the people that sets Malam Umar Namadi apart from many in positions of authority today.

Jigawa’s faithful will perform Hajj with peace of mind, knowing their government took steps to safeguard their spiritual journey. At the same time, families across the state will breathe easier, knowing that essential goods can be accessed at affordable prices in a time of economic uncertainty.
