JAMB’s CAPS platform temporarily down, board assures swift resolution

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced that its Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) is temporarily unavailable, following technical challenges linked to the platform’s hosting arrangements.
In a statement issued by the Board’s Acting Director, Public Affairs and Protocol, Fabian Benjamin, JAMB said the disruption began earlier in the day and that it had immediately opened intensive engagement with its hosting provider to identify and resolve the fault as quickly as possible.
The Board acknowledged the sensitivity of the timing, noting that CAPS remains the central platform through which admissions into tertiary institutions nationwide are processed.
With the admission exercise currently at its peak, institutions are actively processing offers, candidates are awaiting outcomes, and multiple stakeholders are simultaneously accessing the system.
JAMB said it opted to promptly notify the public rather than allow speculation to fill the information gap, describing the move as consistent with its commitment to transparency and accountability in discharging its statutory functions.
“The Board regrets the inconvenience this temporary disruption may cause candidates, institutions and other users of the platform,” the statement read, adding that stakeholders should be assured that technical teams are working round the clock with the hosting organisation to restore full functionality within the shortest possible time.
JAMB further disclosed that once the platform is restored, it will review the circumstances surrounding the outage with a view to instituting safeguards against future recurrences, given the critical role CAPS plays in ensuring a transparent, orderly and coordinated national admissions process.
The Board appealed for the continued patience and understanding of candidates, institutions and other stakeholders, and promised to provide further updates as the situation develops.
CAPS has, since its introduction, served as the backbone of Nigeria’s tertiary admissions process, enabling institutions to upload, verify and finalise candidates’ admission status in real time.
Any downtime on the platform, even temporary, typically triggers anxiety among candidates and pressure on institutions working against admission deadlines.
As of press time, JAMB had not indicated a specific timeline for full restoration of services but maintained that efforts were ongoing to bring the platform back online without further delay.
Stakeholders are advised to monitor official JAMB channels for updates rather than rely on unverified information circulating on social media.
