NYSC Lagos state coordinator, Mr Eddy Megwa, has appealed to well-meaning Nigerians to support the scheme in order to get the approval of Federal Government for the establishment of NYSC Trust Fund that is at present before the National Assembly.
Megwa made the appeal during a courtesy call on General Manager of National Theatre, Prof. Sunday Ododo, in his office Thursday.
He said the trust fund, if signed into law, will in no small way, help the scheme to take care of the large number of prospective corps members that are mobilised for national service yearly.
He further used the visit to call on the management of National Theatre to join the vanguard and support the noble objectives of the scheme in the state.
The coordinator used the occasion to thank Lagos state governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo Olu, for his assistance to the scheme by creating a conducive work environment to the large number of corps members in the state, particularly for constructing an ultra modern 14,000 capacity orientation camp for corps members deployed to serve in the state.
Responding, the general manager, National Theatre, Prof. Sunday Ododo, thanked NYSC DG Major General Shuaibu Ibrahim, whom he described as a friend, brother and professional colleague, for the visit that is vital to both organisations. Prof. Ododo who graduated from the same department of Performing Arts with the NYSC Lagos coordinator at the university of Ilorin, said his organisation was ready to partner with NYSC in Lagos, especially in building up its cultural troop. Prof. Ododo while reminiscing, said NYSC actually brought out the creativity in him way back in the old Gongola state and described the scheme as a noble one that must be supported by all compatriots.
