Wife of the immediate past vice chancellor of Nasarawa
State University, Keffi (NSUK), Professor Akaro Mainoma, Dr (Mrs) Hauwa’u Mainoma, has been honoured by
Sir Ahmadu Bello Youth Council of Nigeria as Jakadiyar Matasan Arewa.

was graced by scholars and members of the university community. Delivering her
acceptance speech, Mrs Mainoma expressed gratitude for the honour bestowed on her. Mainoma said whatever one does society will always
mirror it, noting that the little contribution she made was basically a service
to humanity, without knowing people were watching.

The NSUK director of Gender Studies noted that the
world is a market place where people buy and sell to make gain, but the award
has encouraged her to redouble her efforts to tackling societal challenges.

Mainoma who is
also the chairperson of Women in Academy Nigeria chapter, disclosed that
already she had a platform that focuses on women and child educational
development, the NGO which trains and empowers women and youth.

The aim, she said, is to encourage women and youth to
prepare for tasks ahead of them based on her worry of the rate fathers die

secondary school leaver in the family, and dedicated the award to her husband,
Professor Mainoma who mentored her and laid a strong foundation for her.

of programmes, Yahaya Yakubu, said Sir Ahmadu Bello Youth Council of Nigeria is
an initiative of students of the institution to proffer solution to the current
situation of insecurity in northern Nigeria. Yakubu lamented that the north which was known
for its peaceful ambience, has turned to human abattoir where many lives were
lost to terrorism, armed banditry and kidnapping.

Yakubu appealed to Nigerians to take the humanitarian
crisis in the north seriously and support internally displaced persons in the
camps and proffer solution to end the menace.
