NECO releases 2026 BECE result, re-sit to hold in July

The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the results of the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), covering candidates drawn from all 36 states, the Federal Capital Territory, and five foreign countries.

According to a release by Acting Director of Information and Public Relations at NECO,. Azeez Sani, 186,291 candidates registered for the examination, sitting papers across 12 subjects. The examination commenced on 20 April, 2026 and was successfully concluded on 30 April, 2026.

The results were released following the successful conclusion of the 2026 BECE Award Committee Meeting held at the Council’s headquarters in Minna, Niger State.

Chairing the meeting was the Director of Basic Education at the Federal Ministry of Education, Dr (Mrs) Folake Olatunji David, who represented the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa.

She expressed satisfaction with the processes that led to the successful release of the results. The meeting was also attended by secondary school principals from across the country, alongside NECO management.

In a related development, the Award Committee has approved dates for the 2026 BECE Re-sit examination, scheduled to hold on 22 and 23 July, 2026, covering Mathematics and English Studies.

The resit is designed for candidates with conditional deficiencies in either or both of the two core subjects. It affords affected candidates the opportunity to remedy their shortfalls and obtain the necessary certification for admission and placement into Senior Secondary School (SSS1), without the burden of repeating a full academic year.
