Nigerian students at the University of Arkansas have done what may be the first
of its kind by holding an event that gave their American host community the
opportunity to experience the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).

Earlier,
the director-general of the NYSC, Brigadier-General Shuaibu Ibrahim, finally
cleared the air on the fixed amount for the monthly allowance for members of
the scheme. Speaking at his recent visit to Bauchi, Ibrahim said that the
federal government had approved N33, 000 as the new allowance for corps
members. The NYSC boss said that the upward review of the stipend was in line
with the new minimum wage approved by President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019. He
went on to say that payment of the allowance at the new rate had already been
provided for in the 2020 national budget.
