Scores feared burnt as petrol tanker explodes at Dikko junction
Scores have reportedly been burnt to death while several others sustained various degrees of injuries in a tanker explosion around Dikko junction, along Abuja- Kaduna road in Niger State.
Sensenews gathered that the petrol tanker loaded with petroleum product spilled its contents on Saturday morning following the accident.
Subsequently, residents in the area emerged to scoop fuel before the explosion occurred.
Niger state governor, Farmer Mohammed Umaru Bago, expressed shock over the accident, describing it as disheartening and unfortunate.
In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Bologi Ibrahim, the farmer governor said, “this is a national tragedy, worrisome, heartbreaking and unfortunate”.
He sympathised with the families of the victims of the explosion and prayed that Allah repose the souls of the departed and heal the injured.
He directed all the relevant Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to do what is necessary while urging the security agents to ensure safety in the area.
