Sensitise students on UTME, JAMB tells school principals

The Registrar of Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Is’haq Oloyede, has urged the Association of All Nigeria Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPS) to sensitise students ahead of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) for higher performance.
Speaking at the just concluded meeting of the Southwest Bloc of ANCOPSS, held in Ibadan, Oyo state, Oloyode charged the
participants to prioritise sensitisation of their wards, especially those in the senior classes, on the use of the Board’s Integrated Brochure and Syllabus System (IBASS) while preparing for the UTME.
The registrar, who was represented by the Acting Zonal Director, Ibadan Zonal Office, Mrs. Olajumoke Adeleke said, “IBASS is a robust, interactive and informative platform that guides candidates through the choice of UTME subjects, weighting, list of tertiary institutions in the country and programmes they offer.” Prof. Oloyede on his part said,
“The onus rests on secondary school administrators in the country to leverage on the ease of access to IBASS to familiarise their students with the platform so that they could make informed choices with regard to subject combination, programmes and choice of institutions.”
The registrar thereafter, assured ANCOPSS of the Board’s “readiness to consolidate on the
existing relationship between the Board and secondary schools in
Nigeria towards shaping career paths for the Nigerian child.”
He further implored the headteachers and other stakeholders in the education sector to embrace the series of innovations the Board had introduced with particular emphasis on the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS); the platform where admission processes are,
not only automated but also transparently done to eliminate human interference and biases as well as allow for smooth interaction among JAMB, institutions, and candidates.
Oyo state president of ANCOPSS, Pastor Abraham Ojetunde, in his closing remarks, commended JAMB for its “unrelenting efforts towards delivering quality service for the betterment of the Nigeria educational system”.
Meanwhile, JAMB has set
machinery in motion towards monitoring the activities of all Computer Based Test (CBT)
centres across the states to ensure compliance with the Board’s service charter. The exercise which kicked off in July, 2022, across the states
was organised to check the excesses of “some unscrupulous CBT centre owners whose stock in trade is to extort innocent candidates through the inflation of service charges, among others.”
The exercise, since its commencement has continued to deliver measurable and credible results in terms of increased transparency in the dealings of a cross section of CBT centres across the state.
