Sokoto: Gov Aliyu’s unique public service

Governor of Sokoto State, Dr Ahmad Aliyu, has demonstrated several leadership qualities that show that his mission public office is purely to serve the people.
This people’s governor has a clear vision for the development of Sokoto State demonstrated by the implementation of various initiatives to achieve his goals
He is known for his compassionate approach to governance, particularly in response to the needs of the poor, vulnerable and downtrodden.
This highly educated executive both in western and Islamic civilisations has shown the ability to make tough decisions, even in the face of challenges and opposition. His allowances to principal officers of Juma’ah mosques in Sokoto communities and breaking fast with almajiri children are few his bold steps to solving societal problems.
Also he has fostered partnerships with various stakeholders, including traditional leaders, civil society organisations, and private sector entities.
Furthermore, the welfarist officer has introduced innovative solutions to address pressing issues in the Caliphate such as healthcare and education and as well as promoting diversity and inclusiveness in his administration which ensures equity for the marginalised.
To achieve his goals, Governor Aliyu usually engages with citizens and stakeholders through various channels.
One of the high points of Dr Aliyu’s governance styles is his commitment to transparency and accountability in governance, ensuring efficient management and utilisation of resources.
Despite his position as a state governor, he remains humble, willing to listen and learn from others.
Dr Aliyu’s Leadership template have contributed to his success as a governor and have positively impacted the people of Sokoto State.
Now listen to this: Dr Aliyu of on Wednesday commenced the payment of Four Billion Naira gratuity to retired civil servants in the state as part of his one year anniversary.
He presented cheques to some beneficiaries, saying that the efforts were in fulfillment of his promise after receiving the payment committee’s report he set up.
Earlier, the committee had verified unpaid gratuities of about 5,000 retired personnel with an accumulated backlog of N14bn gratuities from 2015 to 2023.
He earmarked the sum of N500m monthly payment for the senior citizens.
In his efforts not to waste, Aliyu appealed to the beneficiaries to utilize the money in a manner that will be beneficial to their respective families, and reiterated his administration’s commitment to enhance the well-being of the people.
The State’s Accountant General, Umar Ahmad, said a total of 274 retired civil servants were screened between 2015 and 2016, and 130 persons have been paid.
Also 68 decreased workers’ payments were sent to the Commissioner of Justice for appropriate actions, while payments for 76 persons were being processed.
All this has been verified by the testament from beneficiaries. Sidi-Sarki, who worked with the Sokoto State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (SSPHCDA) said he waited for eight years for his gratuity which had remain unpaid until Dr Aliyu came to the rescue.One of the retirees described their situation under Gov Aliyu as ‘a great life-line’.

The vibrant state executive, regarded by many as Godsend, is known for his ability to build coalitions and work across party lines to achieve common goals.
When you talk about transparency and accountability in governance, then Aliyu occupies top spot in the country.
His strive prudent utilisation of public funds, implementing measures to increase transparency, accountability, and good governance, makes him a role model for other public officeholders. Going by the above, every sokoto communities and indeed individuals should see support and encouragement to do more as a national service.
