UBEC condoles with Benue over Ukum school fire explosion

The Executive Secretary of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), Dr. Aisha Garba, has expressed deep shock and sympathy over the fire incident that rocked LGEA Primary School, Ater, in Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State, leaving seven pupils injured.
In a statement personally signed and released to journalists in Abuja on Saturday, Dr. Garba extended condolences to the pupils, their families, the school community, and the Government and people of Benue State.
“The safety and well-being of our children remain our utmost priority, and we stand in solidarity with all those directly impacted,” she said, on behalf of the management and staff of UBEC.
She explained that the Commission was in close contact with the Executive Chairman of Benue State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Dr. Grace Adagba, and the Commissioner for Education and Knowledge Management, Dr. Margaret Adamu, both of whom had visited the injured pupils at St. Anthony’s Hospital, Zaki-Biam.
According to her, all affected pupils are receiving full medical care, with hospital bills cleared, while assessments of the school’s damaged facilities are ongoing.
Dr. Garba commended the swift response of Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia, state authorities, emergency services, and caregivers who were promptly on the ground to manage the situation.
She assured that UBEC would collaborate with the Benue State Government to provide necessary assistance to restore learning in a safe and secure environment.
While investigations continue into the cause of the explosion, the UBEC boss urged school administrators nationwide to strengthen safety protocols and adhere to preventive measures to avert similar tragedies.
“Our prayers remain with the injured pupils for their speedy and full recovery, and with their families during this difficult time,” she added.
