FG debunks fake report of attack on FGGC Monguno, reassures parents of students’ safety

The Federal Ministry of Education has strongly refuted false and misleading reports circulating on social media alleging that Federal Government Girls’ College (FGGC), Monguno, in Borno State, was attacked, describing the claims as entirely false, irresponsible and capable of causing unnecessary panic among parents, guardians and the general public.
In a statement issued in Abuja, the Ministry’s Director, Press and Public Relations, Mrs Boriowo Folasade, said there was no attack on FGGC Monguno, adding that the school remains safe and secure, with all students, staff and boarding facilities fully protected and accounted for. She said academic, boarding and other school activities were continuing uninterrupted in a peaceful environment.
The Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa, reaffirmed that the safety, security and welfare of every learner in Federal Government Colleges remained a top priority of the Federal Government. He said FGGC Monguno operated under robust security arrangements to ensure the continuous protection of students, staff and school facilities.
Dr Alausa clarified that no student of FGGC Monguno was involved in the incident being falsely linked to the college in the media. He explained that those affected were remedial students based outside the college, noting that the Borno State Government was already taking the necessary steps to ensure their safety and welfare.
The Ministry urged members of the public, particularly journalists, bloggers and social media users, to verify information from credible and official sources before publishing or sharing it, warning that the deliberate spread of unverified information not only misinforms the public but also creates needless fear, undermines public confidence and distracts from ongoing efforts to provide safe and conducive learning environments for Nigerian students.
Parents and guardians were encouraged to remain calm and continue supporting their children with confidence, as there was no security threat at the college.
The Ministry said it would continue working closely with relevant security agencies, state authorities and school managements to sustain the safety and security of all Federal Government Colleges nationwide, and pledged to keep providing timely and accurate information through its official communication channels, and advised the public to disregard the misleading report in its entirety.
