Gov. Bala reaffirms commitment to basic education during visit to UBEC headquarters

Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, Executive Governor of Bauchi State, has reiterated his administration’s firm commitment to strengthening basic education during an official visit to the headquarters of the (UBEC) in Abuja.

During the visit, Governor Mohammed underscored the fundamental role of foundational learning, declaring, “Without basic education, nothing works.” He affirmed that his government remains steadfast in advancing the basic education sector, describing it as the cornerstone of societal development.
Highlighting Bauchi State’s extensive educational reach, the Governor remarked, “Bauchi is one of the largest states in terms of access to education, and we also cater to neighbouring states.” He expressed pride in the state’s contribution to expanding educational opportunities across the region.
The Governor commended the leadership of UBEC’s Executive Secretary, Dr Aisha Garba, praising the tangible impact of the Commission’s interventions in Bauchi State. He noted that the state has been a major beneficiary of UBEC’s programmes, particularly the Better Education Service Delivery for All (BESDA) initiative.
“We have implemented numerous projects through BESDA in infrastructure, enrolment, basic education, and human capital development,” Governor Mohammed said. He also confirmed that Bauchi remains up to date in accessing its UBEC matching grants, demonstrating a proactive commitment to leveraging available resources for education.
The visit reaffirms Bauchi State’s continued leadership in educational reform and its fruitful partnership with UBEC in delivering inclusive and high-quality education to children within and beyond its borders.
In her address, Dr Aisha Garba warmly welcomed the Governor and his delegation, expressing gratitude for his visionary leadership and measurable progress in the state’s basic education sector.
She particularly lauded the construction of “mega schools” in Bauchi, describing them as on par with “smart schools” due to their modern facilities and innovative learning environments. Dr Garba also commended the recruitment of qualified teachers as a critical step towards enhancing the quality of education.
“Bauchi State distinguishes itself not only by accessing its UBEC matching grants but also by putting them to effective use to drive meaningful change,” she remarked. “This reflects a deep commitment to accountability and excellence in education.”
UBEC reaffirmed its readiness to strengthen its collaboration with Bauchi State and expressed confidence that their shared vision will continue to deliver long-term, transformative improvements to Nigeria’s basic education landscape.
