JAMB warns against fake resit exam messages

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has warned candidates and the general public to disregard misleading messages circulating through a spoofed version of its official 66019 shortcode. These fraudulent messages instruct candidates—some of whom have already taken and received results for the resit examination—to reprint their examination slips for another resit.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by JAMB’s Public Communication Advisor, Dr Fabian Benjamin, the Board made it clear that these messages are not from JAMB and are designed to cause confusion. He emphasized that no further examinations are currently scheduled for candidates who have already participated in the resit exam and obtained their results.
“These fake messages are the work of fraudsters,” Dr Benjamin stated. “There is no directive from JAMB instructing candidates to reprint slips for any resit. The public should be wary of such deceptive information.”
He clarified that the only examination JAMB is planning at the moment is the foreign examination, which is yet to be scheduled. This exam is held in nine countries, including some in Europe, the Middle East, and select African nations.
Additionally, a mop-up examination will be conducted—but only for a specific group. This includes candidates who missed both the main and resit examinations and have been granted waivers. It also covers those who experienced biometric verification failures during earlier sessions. However, this mop-up will only apply to the 2025 examination cycle.
JAMB reiterated its commitment to ensuring transparency and fairness in all its processes and urged the public not to fall victim to scams. Any legitimate updates regarding examinations will be communicated directly to qualified candidates through official channels.
The Board also reminded candidates to rely solely on information from JAMB’s verified platforms and to report any suspicious messages or directives for appropriate action.
“Those who are eligible for the mop-up examination will be duly informed when the arrangements are finalized,” the statement concluded.
JAMB continues to work toward maintaining the integrity of its examination processes while protecting candidates from fraudulent activities.
