Taraba varsity urges state govt to support tourism development

Vice Chancellor of Taraba State University, Jalingo, Prof. Sunday Paul Bako,  has  called on the Taraba State Government to  redouble their efforts and support the Department of Tourism to showcase their potentials.

Prof. Bako made the appeal during the celebration of the World Tourism Day organised by the Department of Tourism and Heritage held  on Taraba State University, Jalingo campus. 

The VC who was represented by the registrar of  the institution,  Mr Joseph Umar Bibinu, said tourism is a source of knowledge, peace and unity  among the people.

He reiterated that tourism is nature given to humanity, and government should encourage tourism as another avenue of generating money and improving the economic growth of Taraba State.

In the same vein, the Dean, Faculty of Management Sciences, Dr Ibrahim Abdullahi, stressed that the day was  for sensitizing  the people on the importance of tourism in their lives.

He frowned at the manner government takes tourism activities for granted, adding that many developed countries survive on tourism as the sector is well structured for  wealth  generation. .

On her part, the Head Of Department ( HOD) Tourism, Taraba State University,  Dr Esther Baba, expressed her profound gratitude to  Prof. Bako for his excellent stewardship.

Dr Esther disclosed that tourism provides love among people, creates an opportunity for unity and peace, irrespective of one’s tribe or culture.

 The theme of 2024 World Tourism  Day is “Tourism and Peace”

.In a paper presentation titled,  “Tourism, Justice, and Peace: Breaking Barriers and Amplifying the Voice of the Unheard”, by Dr Vincent Ojeh, he said tourism is composed of three pillars, which is social justice, economic development and environmental integrity.
